Sometimes looking in the mirror can be tough; the reflection you see staring back isn’t the person you see in your mind’s eye and it’s certainly not the person you feel inside – you’re still 21, right? For some people, they may not notice fine lines and wrinkles and think that anything used to treat these signs of ageing involves something invasive, painful and dangerous. The reality is, however, that facial aesthetics have moved on a lot from the days of major surgery and permanent results that may not have rendered what you hoped for. One treatment to find out more about is dermal fillers in W1.
What are dermal fillers?
Even though dermal fillers have been around for decades, they are now longer lasting and some are even semi-permanent. Dermal fillers simply consist of injections of a particular substance called hyaluronic acid and will relax the muscles in the face and plump the area producing a smoother and fresher appearance. There are different solutions which can be administered to achieve a healthy glow.
BTX
BTX Type A is used to relax muscles by blocking the nerves attached to the muscles. This relaxes the muscles which cause expression lines as the facial muscles don’t need to contract anymore. This can be very useful to help treat issues such as hyperhidrosis (which is excessive sweating in layman’s terms!)
PRP-PRG Fbiorevistalisation with growth factor platelets
Say, what? Yes, try saying this 10 times over – fast! This catchy name refers to an innovative treatment that, while not dermal fillers, is another option for improving the appearance of wrinkles. It consists of using a blood sample from the patient that is rich in plasma; plasma is rich in growth factor thanks to the platelets which are small parts of the cells that circulate in the blood and these platelets are the catalyst for repairing damaged cells. This leads to an increase in the thickness and brightness of the skin making the appearance look more youthful.
Are there any risks with dermal fillers?
If you opt for hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, you are opting for a substance that is naturally produced by the body. That’s right! Despite the slightly scary ‘acid’ name, your body produces hyaluronic acid for your skin and, as you age, you have less of it. This synthetic form of hyaluronic acid is intended to improve the appearance of skin for around 9 months and there are rarely any allergic reactions to it. Having the injections themselves shouldn’t be more than a little uncomfortable as well.
Anything else I need to know?
As with any facial aesthetic treatment, it is well worth doing your homework and checking out the experience of the person administering the treatment. Many dental practices now offer facial aesthetic treatments and as dentists are facial anatomy experts, it can be a reassuring option to go to them. Dentists are also highly trained in performing delicate work, so administering injections into the face should be the perfect combination for a dentist to perform successfully. Remember to book in for a consultation first and ask all of the relevant questions that you have. You should feel fully informed before having any treatments and trusting someone who lets you have the chance to talk things through first is a sensible choice in your pursuit for your fresh-faced look.
