Once you’ve decided to invest time and money into straightening your teeth and have your Invisalign fitted in London, it’s important you take the aftercare as seriously as wearing the Invisalign London themselves. It’s really important to us that these braces last you the time needed for treatment and that they keep appearing super clear and as unnoticeable as possible. We’ve collected our top tips for taking care of your braces.
Why is it important to keep them clean?
Invisalign are so popular because they are super discreet and comfortable, but it goes without saying that if your aligners become stained they won’t be the secretive solution you were looking for, so keeping on top of cleaning daily will help in keeping them clear.
Your trays also spend all day in your mouth and will quickly build up with bacteria that sits against your gums and teeth can cause gum disease and tooth decay – we really want to ensure this doesn’t happen.
Tops tips for a sparkling invisalign
Make sure you integrate a good morning clean routine. You need to make sure you’re sleeping in your invisalign and nighttime is a perfect time for bacteria to start multiplying around your teeth, gums and brace.
When you wake up, take out your retainers and pop them into water whilst you eat breakfast and get ready – when you come to brush your teeth, make sure you give your invisalign a light brush and clean too. We also recommend this process before bed.
Whenever you eat or drink you’ll need to remove your retainer. It’s really worth giving them a rinse with cold water each time you do this. We also recommend only drinking water when you have your invisaligns in. Drinks with colours like tea, coffee or juice could cause discolouration to the clear plastic and your invisible braces will quickly become noticeable.
Once fitted in London, give your invisaligns a proper soak once a day, we recommend purchasing either invisalign crystals or another type of retainer cleaning solution. These products are specially designed to keep your brace crystal clear and minty fresh. Follow any instructions given on the packet and always give the appliance a good soak before popping it back over your teeth. There are other home remedies to give your retainer a clean, products like baking soda and white wine vinegar can be successful cleaners but always check with us at the surgery before using these methods.
We really advise against leaving your invisalign exposed to the open air. Once the appliance is out in the open bacteria will quickly form and begin to multiply. Not to mention they are easily lost or could get broken.
Remember when it comes to brushing your retainer either after your morning/evening routine or after a longer soak you need to take real care. Use a soft bristle brush and be careful in brushing along the lines of the retainers. Our dental practitioners will be happy to tell you the best, safest way to do this once your invisalign has been fitted.
